After a couple of months of planning and creating lists, it’s time to pack up for the flight to Seattle tomorrow. This post probably will not be that exciting, kind of like learning how the sausage is made. Hopefully the riding part of the trip will hold more interest.
Last year the theme was “pack light”. The problem with this year is that with Les driving support, there is a tendency to “pack heavy”. A good technique for me is to lay everything out and then get rid of half. Even last year, I ended up mailing three boxes of excess stuff along the way that moved from “need” to “dump it”. Les and I are all set with two smallish bags.
I left my bike travel bag in Seattle at the start of my cross country ride, so I was going to ship my bike to start the trip. Once I found out that the cost of shipping the bike one way was more than one of our round trip plane tickets. I decided to have the bike packed by my local bike shop, The Great Little Bike Shop (run by Luke and Dave). As anyone who read my blog from last year knows, if I packed the bike the frame would be in three pieces and I would have forgotten the bike seat (which would be pretty painful after about 200 miles).
Well, that’s it for this exciting entry. Les and I are kicking back with a glass of wine and getting ready for our 4:45 am Uber ride.
